Services

A service code is a one- or two-character code that can be used for many things. It can be used to designate a type of media for subscriptions that are sold with accompanying diskettes, or it can mean a level of service such as fax or courier delivery.

When you produce issue labels by running the 'Issue labels' update, your labels are sorted by publication and service code and then by shipping class and quantity within service code. So you can use a service code whenever you need your labels split into special groups.

You can choose to have your issue labels not sorted by service code by setting the "sort by service code" flag on the issue label split table to 'N'. Click here for more information on the "sort by service" field on the label split table.

Service codes may be entered whenever you enter new or renewal orders. Of course you do not have to use service codes. Just leave the 'Service' field blank when entering orders.

You can request that QuickFill select subscriptions by service code when producing promotional labels or running the 'Subscription statistics' report.

Defining service codes

When you select 'Services' under 'Definitions' on the main menu, you'll see one of two screens. If you select 'Services' for the first time after installing QuickFill, you'll see a screen with a blank form for defining the service code.

If you've already defined some services, you'll see a list of the service codes that you've defined in the upper portion of the screen and the "New," "Change," "Replicate," and "Delete" options running along the bottom.

If you haven't yet defined any services, fill in the blank form and click on "OK" to save your changes.

You can define another service code by clicking on "New," filling in the fields described below, and then clicking on "OK." If the service code you want to define next is similar to one you've already defined, you can replicate the existing service code by moving the cursor to the service code you want to replicate and clicking on "Replicate."

Service code

Enter a code to identify the service—for example, FX for "fax delivery" or 3D for "3.5-inch diskette".

Description

Enter a brief description of the service—"3.5-inch diskette" for example. This description along with the service code will be displayed on the service selection list that appears on some of the screens when you right click in the 'service' field. QuickFill also uses the code and description to identify the service on your reports.

No shipping charges for this service

Use this field to indicate whether or not shipping charges apply to this service code. When this field is checked for a service code, the shipping charges will be set to zero for orders entered with that code.   This is useful for non-physical delivery services, such as email.  For example, you might have two one-year term offers on your renewal notice, one of which has a service code of E for email delivery and the other with a service code of P for printed media delivery.  If you check the "no shipping charges" box on the definition screen for the E service code then QuickFill will not add any shipping charges to that offer on the renewal notice.

You can also change the definition of a service code by moving the cursor to the service code you want to change and double clicking on it, or clicking on "Change."

You can delete a service code that is not being used by moving the cursor on the code you want to delete and clicking on "Delete."
