Periodical class zones definition

The periodical class zone table allows QuickFill to provide you with the information you need to mail at periodical class postage rates. You don't need to fill in this screen unless you use periodical class mail.

Say you fill in this table and link it to a publication. When you run the 'Label Splitter', the 'Label splitter' report will now show the number of copies for each periodical class zone.

Defining periodical class zone tables

When you select 'Periodical class zones' under 'Definitions' on the main menu, you'll see one of two screens. If you select this menu item for the first time after installing QuickFill, you'll see a screen with a blank form for defining the periodical class zone table.

If you've already defined some periodical class zone tables, you'll see a list of the zone tables that you've defined in the upper portion of the screen and the "New," "Change," "Replicate," and "Delete" options running along the bottom.

If you haven't yet defined any periodical class zone tables, fill in the blank form and click on "OK" to save your changes.

You can define another table by clicking on "New," filling in the fields described below, and then clicking on "OK." If the zone table you want to define next is similar to one you've already defined, you can replicate the existing table by moving the cursor to the zone table you want to replicate and clicking on "Replicate."

Zone table description

Enter a descriptive label for your table—for example, "017-018, 020-024, 055 Effective 1/1/99."

Rows

Each row of the table has space for a zip code range and a zone number. Enter the zip code range using only the first three digits of the zip codes. The zone must be a single number, in the range 1 to 8. This format is the same as the one the U.S. Postal Service provides on its zone chart. If you've entered two ranges that overlap—169-170 and 168-171, for example—QuickFill gives you an error message and highlights the incorrect range.

You can also change the definition of a periodical class zone table by moving the cursor to the table you want to change and double clicking on it, or clicking on "Change." You can delete a table that is not being used by moving the cursor on the zone table you want to delete and clicking on "Delete."

After you have defined a periodical class zone table you link it to a specific publication on the 'Issue labels' tab of the publication definition.

If you have publications that you mail from different locations, define one zone table for each location. You can mail each of your publications from a different location. But you can't mail a single publication from more than one location.
